KUALA LUMPUR, 28 May 2025: The VTAREC 2025 Nationwide Campaign on Vehicle Theft and Road Accident Awareness (Kempen Kesedaran Awam Kecurian Kenderaan dan Kemalangan Jalan Raya VTAREC 2025) was officially launched by YBhg Datuk Lokman Jamaan, Chairman of VTAREC, at Sunway Velocity Mall, Cheras.
This nationwide initiative aims to tackle the persistent issues of vehicle theft and road accidents by increasing public awareness and promoting responsible behaviour among vehicle owners. With the theme “Protect Your Ride, Protect Your Life,” the campaign seeks to inspire Malaysians to take proactive steps in safeguarding their vehicles and, ultimately, their lives.

YBhg Datuk Lokman Jamaan, VTAREC Chairman, officiated the launch of the 2025 Public Awareness Campaign on Vehicle Theft and Road Accidents, themed “Protect Your Ride, Protect Your Life.” He expressed gratitude to all agencies, NGOs and stakeholders for their support and collaboration. He emphasised the importance of strategic partnerships, especially with PDRM and JPJ in tackling vehicle theft and road accidents through prevention, enforcement and education. He also highlighted VTAREC’s commitment to addressing evolving challenges, including cyber threats and advanced criminal tactics, through strengthened co-operation and targeted interventions.
YBhg Datuk Lokman Jamaan highlighted a notable reduction in vehicle theft and road accident cases in 2024, based on insurance industry data. A total of 3,925 vehicle theft cases and 266,716 road accidents were reported, showing a downward trend from 2023 figures. He attributed this improvement to effective public awareness efforts, insurance compliance and strong inter-agency collaboration.
He emphasised that while Malaysia’s road infrastructure ranks among the best globally, road accidents and fatalities remain serious issues. He urged all road users to be responsible, maintain vehicle and personal fitness, and respect traffic laws. YBhg Datuk Lokman called for continued commitment from all sectors of society to help further reduce these incidents and create a safer road environment for all.

She emphasised the campaign’s goal to raise public awareness on vehicle protection, road safety, and the importance of valid licenses and insurance coverage. The year-long initiative includes collaboration with stakeholders, digital outreach through social media, and interactive programs such as online colouring contests to engage the public, particularly youth. The campaign reflects VTAREC’s continued commitment since 2007 in reducing vehicle theft and now road accidents, with strong support from agencies, industry partners and media.

The event began with the singing of the national anthem, followed by a prayer recitation led by Imam of Masjid Negara, Al-Fadhil Ustaz Mohd Azali Omar.
In addition to the VTAREC Engagement and Interaction Booth, several key agencies and industry stakeholders participated in the event by setting up their own exhibition booths aimed at raising public awareness on vehicle theft prevention. Among the participating organisations were the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), specifically the Crime Prevention and Community Safety Department (JPJKK), PUSPAKOM Sdn Bhd, Malaysia Takaful Association (MTA), Persatuan Insurans Am Malaysia (PIAM), and Seng Cars World Sdn Bhd.
Each booth played an important role in educating the public on various aspects of vehicle ownership, safety, and protection against theft. PDRM representatives shared crime prevention tips and highlighted the importance of community vigilance. PUSPAKOM provided insights on vehicle inspection procedures and roadworthiness, while MTA and PIAM focused on the importance of insurance and takaful coverage in safeguarding vehicles. Seng Cars World Sdn Bhd contributed by explaining the significance of purchasing from credible dealers and how to avoid becoming victims of vehicle fraud or theft syndicates.
Through face-to-face interactions, demonstrations, and informative materials, these booths successfully engaged with visitors, fostering greater understanding of the collaborative efforts needed to reduce vehicle theft and promote road safety across Malaysia.

In the afternoon, the event continued with engaging public-focused activities, including Pocket Talk sessions, a colouring competition, an aerobics competition, traditional dance performances and rhythmic gymnastics showcases. These activities were aimed not only at entertaining the crowd but also at promoting public awareness of vehicle theft and road traffic accident prevention.
The first Pocket Talk session was delivered by Puan Farrah Jasmin Jamil, VTAREC Executive, focusing on the theme “Berkenaan VTAREC, Statistik Kecurian Kenderaan dan Statistik Kemalangan Jalan Raya”.

In her presentation, she introduced the role and objectives of VTAREC in reducing vehicle theft and road traffic accidents through multi-agency collaboration, awareness campaigns, and strategic interventions. She also shared the latest insurance-based statistics on vehicle theft and road traffic accidents for the year 2024, highlighting a noticeable decline compared to the previous year.
Her talk provided valuable insights into the most common causes and hotspots for vehicle theft, as well as the key factors contributing to road traffic accidents in Malaysia. She emphasised that although the statistics show improvement, continued public awareness, law enforcement efforts, and responsible driving practices are critical in sustaining the downward trend. The session effectively underscored the importance of VTAREC’s initiatives in fostering a safer and more informed community.

In tandem with the campaign’s educational objectives, the public engagement activities resumed in the afternoon, starting with the launch of the Engagement Wall. This interactive feature invited members of the public to write down their personal pledges, messages of support, and safety advice related to the prevention of vehicle theft and road accidents. The wall served as a symbolic platform to reinforce community commitment towards road safety and vehicle protection.
Simultaneously, registration for the colouring competition also commenced. Open to primary school students aged between 7 to 12 years old, the competition welcomed entries through both online pre-registration and walk-in participation on the day of the event. The response was overwhelming, with nearly 100 enthusiastic young participants from various states across Malaysia taking part. The strong turnout reflected the public’s keen interest and support for VTAREC’s awareness efforts, particularly in engaging the younger generation through creative and educational activities. The competition not only encouraged artistic expression but also helped instil early awareness about the importance of road safety and vehicle security.

During the official launch of the VTAREC 2025 Public Awareness Campaign on Vehicle Theft and Road Traffic Accidents, young participants between the ages of 7 and 12 enthusiastically began the colouring competition. Each child showcased their creativity and unique techniques, competing for top prizes while learning about the importance of vehicle safety in a fun and engaging way.
Meanwhile, parents and members of the public took the opportunity to explore various exhibition booths set up by agencies such as PDRM, JPJKK, PUSPAKOM, PIAM, MTA, and Seng Cars World Sdn Bhd. These booths offered valuable information and interactive displays highlighting each organisation’s role in preventing vehicle theft and promoting road safety.
Visitors also enjoyed educational games, quizzes, and received souvenirs, making the event not only informative but enjoyable for the whole family. The campaign successfully combined learning, engagement, and entertainment, fostering greater public awareness and community involvement.

A lively Senamrobik performance was presented by students from SK Convent Bukit Nanas, Kuala Lumpur, showcasing their enthusiasm, energy, and teamwork in promoting a healthy and active lifestyle
Following that, the event continued with the much-anticipated Senamrobik Contest, which saw enthusiastic participation from four primary schools in Kuala Lumpur: SK St. Mary, SK Taman Tun Dr Ismail 2, SK Bukit Damansara, and SK Bukit Pantai. Each team, consisting of energetic and well-coordinated students, showcased their talents through lively aerobic routines set to upbeat music. The performances reflected hours of preparation, discipline, and teamwork, impressing both the judges and the audience.
The main objective of this contest was to promote physical fitness and a healthy lifestyle among schoolchildren while also instilling values of discipline, collaboration, and self-confidence. The contest aligned well with VTAREC’s broader mission of cultivating public awareness and responsibility, especially among the younger generation, on matters of safety, well-being, and proactive community engagement.
The students’ participation not only added vibrancy and excitement to the event but also attracted strong support from teachers, parents, and fellow students who turned up to cheer their schools. The lively and colourful atmosphere created a sense of unity and celebration, reinforcing the importance of community involvement in national safety campaigns such as VTAREC 2025.
