Inception
During the Dialogue session between Polis Diraja Malaysia (PDRM), Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) and members of Persatuan Insurans Am Malaysia (PIAM) in 2004, the idea of forming the Vehicle Theft Reduction Council of Malaysia Berhad (VTREC) had been mooted. After a significant success in reducing vehicle theft, in April 2025, VTREC was entrusted to assist in reducing road traffic accidents, VTAREC changed its name to Vehicle Theft and Accident Reduction Council of Malaysia Berhad (VTAREC)
- Formation of VTREC
- Sharing of information between stakeholders
- Adoption of the revised Motor Insurance Tariff
- Automation of detection at exit points
VTREC was incorporated as a Company limited by guarantee on 30th April 2007.
Role
- Study weaknesses in the automobile industry
- Facilitate cooperation among stakeholders and implement agreed recommendations
- Develop and advocate proposals for change across government and non-government
sectors - Prepare and implement action plans and recommendations of the Council
- Coordinate public education campaigns, vehicle theft prevention research and road traffic
accident reduction initiatives - Monitor vehicle theft and road traffic accident reduction efforts and provide reports to
relevant authorities - Serve as a forum to recommend to relevant ministries the resolutions achieved by the
Council to address weaknesses in the automobile industry
