KUCHING, 6 October 2024:  The Vehicle Theft and Accident Reduction Council of Malaysia (VTAREC) continues to promote the importance of keeping our cars safe to raise awareness and knowledge about vehicle theft. This campaign is to secure the safety of the Kuching community and protect their vehicle and avoid being stolen.  The public awareness was held in Level 1, AEON Mall Kuching Central, Kuching, Sarawak.  The slogan ‘United Against Vehicle Theft’ calls for the community in Sarawak to stand together stronger to protect their vehicles from being victims of vehicle theft. At the end of the day, participants become more vigilant and take the necessary precautions to protect their vehicles and avoid being the victim of a stolen vehicle.

The public engagement received much participation from the community in Kuching.  This public engagement also received participation from Polis Diraja Malaysia (PDRM).  Many activities have been prepared by VTAREC, such as engagement wall, wheel of fortunes, quizzes and colouring contests, which attract many visitors from the mall to join the VTAREC booth.

YBrs Puan Mas Tina Abdul Hamid, Co-ordinator of VTAREC, advises always using a steering lock device like a universal steering lock for safety measures to avoid being victims of vehicle theft.  Other than that, she advised us to install and use wheel locks, GPS trackers, RFID blockers and immobilisers to add safety features and countermeasures to protect our car from being stolen.

Other than standing a chance to win many great prizes that have been offered by VTAREC, participants can also share some of their or their nearest contacts who were involved in road traffic accidents by answering a questionnaire that has been prepared.  The initiative done by VTAREC is an effective effort to study and reduce the rate of road traffic accidents.

 VTAREC colouring contest in AEON Mall Kuching Central received more than 30 participation applications from 6 years old to 12 years old who joined the contest.  A variety of creativity by the participants was translated through the drawing paper that was provided.

As the public engagement drew to an end, YBrs Puan Mas Tina Abdul Hamid, VTAREC Co-ordinator, led the prize presentation ceremony. The winner of the colouring contest for this public engagement took home the grand prize comprising a VTAREC t-shirt, a goodies bag, a certificate and cash of RM130.00.  The first runner-up received a prize bundle comprising a VTAREC ‘United Against Vehicle Theft’ t-shirt, a goodies bag, a certificate and cash amounting to RM100.00. Not only that, two participants won third place and received a VTAREC t-shirt, a goodies bag, a certificate and a cash prize valued at RM70.00.
