KUCHING, 5 October 2024: PDRM-VTAREC-PEJADI Community Engagement event was held at Dewan Bratan in Padawan, featuring the slogan “UNITED AGAINST VEHICLE THEFT”. This initiative was a collaboration between the Vehicle Theft and Accident Reduction Council of Malaysia (VTAREC), Ibu Pejabat Polis Kontinjen Sarawak and Persatuan Perkasakan Jati Diri Mambong (PEJADI). The event bore the title ‘Program Kepolisan Komuniti: Kempen Kesedaran Awam Kecurian Kenderaan’ and was officiated by YDH SAC Tuan Lukas Anak Aket, Ketua Jabatan Pencegahan Jenayah dan Keselamatan Komuniti.

Titled “Program Kepolisan Komuniti: Kempen Kesedaran Awam Kecurian Kenderaan,” the event aimed to raise public awareness about vehicle theft and foster community involvement in prevention efforts. It was officiated by YDH SAC Tuan Lukas Anak Aket, Ketua Jabatan Pencegahan Jenayah dan Keselamatan Komuniti (JPJKK), who emphasised the importance of community co-operation in addressing this pressing issue.
Participants engaged in discussion, educational activities and shared insights on how to protect their vehicles and contribute to a safer environment. The event highlighted the collective responsibility of citizens, law enforcement and community organisations in combating vehicle theft, reinforcing the message that together, we can make a difference. The event also served as a platform for networking, allowing residents to connect with police officers and local leaders. By fostering a relationship between law enforcement and the community, the initiative aimed to build trust and enhance communication, ensuring that everyone plays a vital role in maintaining public safety. It emphasised that by working together, the community can create a safer environment, ultimately leading to a reduction in vehicle theft incidents.

The event commenced with great anticipation as YDH SAC Tuan Lukas Anak Aket, Ketua Jabatan Pencegahan Jenayah dan Keselamatan Komuniti (JPJKK) took the stage to officiate the ceremony. With a sense of ceremony, he placed the key into the box, symbolising a profound transition of the ‘UNITED AGAINST VEHICLE THEFT’ slogan. From the outset, the atmosphere was filled with excitement and enthusiasm. Attendees were treated with a variety of activities, including a colouring contest, educational games and booth activities. Overall, the ceremony at Dewan Bratan, Padawan, stood as a testament to the strength of community ties, demonstrating how collective efforts can create meaningful and memorable experiences for all involved. The support shown by residents not only made the event a success but also reinforced the importance of unity and collaboration in shaping a vibrant community.

During the PDRM-VTAREC Community Engagement, briefings were presented on vehicle theft and road traffic accidents. The first speaker, Puan Marlyana Mansur, Executive of VTAREC, shared safety measures to protect vehicles. She strongly emphasised the importance of staying vigilant and avoiding cloned cars or stolen vehicle spare parts, such as using items that can pose significant risks. The second speaker, YDH Insp Tuan Nicodemus Anak Branking, Inspector of Property Crime from the Sarawak Police Contingent Headquarters, provided insights into the legal implications of possessing a stolen vehicle. He explained that individuals found in possession of a stolen or suspected stolen vehicle could face legal action, including substantial fines and imprisonment, depending on the specific circumstances and relevant laws.
Additionally, criminals often employ tools such as lock-picking devices and signal jammers to facilitate vehicle theft. This underscores the importance of implementing extra security measures, such as steering wheel locks, brake locks and motorcycle locks, to enhance vehicle protection.
The third speaker, YDH Supt Tuan Neekon Lim, Pegawai Turus Kepolisan Komuniti, JPJKK IPK Sarawak, highlighted the importance of vehicle theft prevention in ensuring personal safety and property security. He outlined several effective strategies, including securing parking spaces, installing alarm systems, staying vigilant in one’s surroundings and promptly reporting any suspicious activity to local authorities.
