VTAREC Hosted ‘Seminar Kemalangan Jalan Raya: Menangani Faktor Kesilapan Manusia (Human Error)’ at Sheraton Hotel, Kuala Lumpur

KUALA LUMPUR, 25 September 2024:  As part of its new portfolio focused on reducing road traffic accidents, the Vehicle Theft and Accident Reduction Council of Malaysia (VTAREC) has organised a strategic seminar to discuss the impact of human error in unsafe driving practices and the potential consequences of implementing road safety standards to enhance vehicle safety and reduce accident rates.

 The strategic seminar was conducted at the Sheraton Imperial Kuala Lumpur. The seminar was attended by representatives from various agencies, including Polis Diraja Malaysia (PDRM), Jabatan Pengangkutan Jalan Malaysia (JPJ), Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (MIROS), Lembaga Lebuhraya Malaysia (LLM), Persatuan Insurans Am Malaysia (PIAM) and Malaysian Takaful Association (MTA), as well as insurance companies and takaful operators.

 YBrs Puan Mas Tina Abdul Hamid, Co-ordinator of VTAREC, delivered a welcome speech. In her speech, she highlighted that Malaysia has one of the highest rates of fatal accidents in Southeast Asia, despite having some of the best road infrastructure in the region. She emphasised that efforts to reduce road traffic accidents should not be a ‘one-sided’ or ‘one-man’ initiative, but rather a collective responsibility involving various agencies beyond just enforcement bodies. She also expressed her gratitude to all who contributed to the success of the seminar.

The Guest of Honour, YBhg Datuk Lokman Jamaan, Chairman of VTAREC, highlighted the alarming rise of road traffic accidents in Malaysia and their profound impact on social and economic issues.

YDH ACP Tuan Rahmat Ariffin, Ketua Urusetia, Jabatan Siasatan dan Penguatkuasaan Trafik (JSPT) Bukit Aman, Polis Diraja Malaysia (PDRM) shared the statistics of road accidents and factors leading to road accidents.

Experts from various agencies were invited to share their knowledge and give presentations at the seminar. Speakers who graciously attended were:

 YBhg Datuk Lokman Jamaan, Chairman of the Vehicle Theft and Accident Reduction Council of Malaysia (VTAREC) took the stage with his presentation at the seminar.

 

YBrs Ts Puan Norainy Othman, Research Officer of Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (MIROS), delivered a presentation on the different groups of road users involved in traffic accidents.

 

YBhg Dato’ Ooi Win Juat, Head of Marketing and Advisory, PUSPAKOM Sdn Bhd, delivered his presentation on the significance of vehicle maintenance.

 

YBrs Ts Dr Rohaya Abdullah, Ketua Penolong Pengarah Pemantauan Operasi, Lembaga Lebuhraya Malaysia (LLM), delivered her presentation on the topic of accidents in Malaysia from highway management’s perspectives.

Participants responded positively to the session, actively engaging in discussions, sharing insights and asking questions to deepen their understanding of the concerns. The conversation was both lively and constructive.
