KUALA LUMPUR, 4 November 2025: The Vehicle Theft and Accident Reduction Council of Malaysia (VTAREC) convened a strategic meeting on the vehicle immobiliser initiative with key stakeholders, including representatives from Jabatan Pengangkutan Jalan Malaysia (JPJ), Polis Diraja Malaysia (PDRM), Jabatan Standard Malaysia (JSM), the International Association of Auto Theft Investigators (IAATI) and the Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (MIROS). The session was held at Menara Sentral Vista, Kuala Lumpur and was chaired by YBrs Puan Mas Tina Abdul Hamid, Co-ordinator of VTAREC.
The key stakeholders’ representatives from Jabatan Pengangkutan Jalan Malaysia (JPJ), Polis Diraja Malaysia (PDRM), Jabatan Standard Malaysia (JSM), the International Association of Auto Theft Investigators (IAATI) and the Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (MIROS)
Among those in attendance were YBhg Dato’ Alex Lye and Mr Julian Lye Zhen Hong from the International Association of Auto Theft Investigators (IAATI), who shared valuable insights and international best practices in vehicle theft prevention. Their participation reflects the importance of aligning Malaysia’s initiatives with global security trends and effective investigative approaches.
In addition, technical and standards expertise was represented by YBrs Puan Karmila Abdul Wahab from Jabatan Standard Malaysia (JSM), alongside safety and research insights from YBrs Ts Tuan Ahmad Saife Salleh from the Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (MIROS). Their participation highlights the importance of establishing clear national standards, ensuring product compliance, and integrating research-based recommendations to support the successful nationwide adoption of immobiliser technology.

The session was further strengthened by the attendance of enforcement representatives, including YBrs Tuan Mohd Alifarihan Abdullah from Bahagian Penguatkuasaan, Jabatan Pengangkutan Jalan Malaysia (JPJ), YDH ASP Vishnuhindran a/l Arumugam from Jabatan Siasatan Jenayah (JSJ) D4, Bukit Aman and YDH DSP Azaha Mamat from Jabatan Pencegahan Jenayah dan Keselamatan Komuniti (JPJKK), Bukit Aman. Their involvement underscores the strategic role of law enforcement agencies in combating vehicle theft and ensuring effective policy enforcement once the immobiliser initiative is implemented.

The presence and active participation of all agency representatives emphasised the significance of co-ordinated, multi-agency cooperation in strengthening Malaysia’s vehicle security ecosystem. This collaborative effort plays a crucial role in shaping a comprehensive approach to reducing vehicle theft, enhancing public safety, and supporting the successful implementation of the immobiliser initiative across the country.
