YBrs Puan Mas Tina Abdul Hamid, Co-ordinator of VTAREC, explained in her speech that the PDRM-VTAREC Community Engagement is an educational initiative that encourages civic participation and engagement within the community, especially in Seksyen 10, Wangsa Maju, to foster community-wide awareness of vehicle theft, empower individuals to advocate, intervene and take action, and ensure the safety of their vehicles, families and neighbours, ultimately enhancing the overall well-being of the community.
With the slogan #UNITEDAGAINSTVEHICLETHEFT, the PDRM-VTAREC Community Engagement aimed to unite the community and prevent vehicle theft issues. She explained that raising awareness within the community about safeguarding vehicles and looking out for one another could help strengthen communal bonds while significantly reducing opportunities for criminals to commit vehicle theft. This may help build a strong and united community against vehicle theft.
YBrs Puan Mas Tina Abdul Hamid also advised on safety measures to prevent theft, especially for motorcycles, such as keeping vehicles locked at all times (including handle and disc locks), keeping motorcycle keys safe after turning off the engine (never leaving keys on the motorcycle), using chains to secure motorcycles to immovable objects like poles or iron bars (making it harder to move the motorcycle by force), installing alarm systems or GPS trackers (anti-theft devices) and covering motorcycles.
Officiating speech by YDH ACP Tuan Mohamad Lazim Ismail, Ketua Polis Daerah Wangsa Maju.
YDH ACP Tuan Mohamad Lazim Ismail, Ketua Polis Daerah Wangsa Maju, delivered the officiating remarks. During his speech, he emphasized that the carelessness of vehicle owners, such as failing to lock their cars properly, misusing their keys or leaving valuables in plain sight, creates opportunities for criminals to commit theft. Additionally, vehicles parked in remote or poorly lit areas are more vulnerable to being targeted. Based on their research, vehicle theft frequently occurs in shopping malls, residential neighbourhoods, along roadsides and in secluded locations.
He also advised the community to always use alarm devices and additional security measures, ensure vehicles are properly locked, park in safe and visible areas and avoid handing over car keys to newly acquainted individuals.
