VTAREC Showcases Vehicle Theft Prevention Tools at PIAM Media Briefing

KUALA LUMPUR, 6 May 2026 : Vehicle Theft and Accident Reduction Council of Malaysia (VTAREC) was entrusted with the opportunity to lead an engagement and advocacy initiative focusing on reducing vehicle theft and road accidents in conjunction with the PIAM Media Briefing event.

Marking VTAREC’s inaugural participation in such an event, the organisation showcased a variety of anti-theft devices to visitors and members of the media. Among the highlights was an educational steering lock challenge, which attracted significant attention from participants eager to test their ability to install a steering lock in under three seconds.

 During the same event, PIAM’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr Chua Kim Soon and Chairman, Mr Ng Kok Kheng also briefed members of the media on the latest developments within the insurance industry.

Also in attendance were YBrs. Puan Mas Tina Abdul Hamid, General Manager of VTAREC Encik Muhamad Faiz Mohd Faizal and Puan Aisha Fahmy Mohd Zulhery Fahmy of VTAREC alongside PIAM’s team and other invited stakeholders.

The activity showcased by VTAREC successfully demonstrated that installing an additional mechanical locking device is both quick and simple, requiring less than three seconds to secure a vehicle against theft. Impressively, several participants managed to install the steering lock in under two seconds.

Throughout the event, VTAREC also shared valuable insights and conducted public engagement sessions on the importance of safeguarding vehicles from theft and promoting road safety awareness to help reduce traffic accidents.
