VTREC-PDRM COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT AT DAMANSARA DAMAI – COMBATING VEHICLE THEFT THROUGH “BEWARE OF VEHICLE THEFT CRIME MENTALITY” #SAYNOTOVEHICLE THEFT

Vehicle Theft Reduction Council of Malaysia (VTREC) and Polis Diraja Malaysia (PDRM) engaged its initiative programme #SAYNOTOVEHICLETHEFT with Damansara Damai Residents Association and with the support of PUSPAKOM Sdn Bhd (PUSPAKOM) to drive crime of vehicle theft awareness and behavioural change among the residence, one of the risk groups for crime of vehicle theft.

Through #SAYNOTOVEHICLETHEFT, impactful vehicle theft public initiatives ranging from school engagement, university engagement, residents and community engagement up to mass public engagement that instil “beware of vehicle theft crime mentality” in ensuring community’s vehicle safety and life well-being, have been implemented and benefited the surrounding communities.

Today on September 5, 2020, the VTREC-PDRM community engagement has taken place at Damansara Damai which was held at Saujana Apartment Damansara Damai, Public Hall.  The event was officiated by YDH Tuan DSP Zaiham Mohd Kahar, Head of  Bahagian Pencegahan Jenayah dan Keselamatan Komuniti (BPJKK) IPD Petaling Jaya.  YBhg Puan Mas Tina Abdul Hamid, Co-ordinator of VTREC delivered her impactful speech to motivate the residents and community to play their significant roles in vehicle theft intervention for their vehicle safety and better life well-being.  The welcome speech was delivered by YBhg Encik Mohd Ikhsan bin Mohd Din, President of Damansara Damai Residents Association.

The VTREC-PDRM community engagement programme aims to collaborate with residence association to create a community-wide aware of vehicle theft culture within the community, who are able and empowered to advocate, intervene and act to ensure the safety of their, their family and their neighbour’s vehicles and to improve the community life well-being. In her speech, YBhg Puan Mas Tina also highlighted that “reduction of vehicle theft demands commitment of residence and neighbourhood to build beware of vehicle theft crime mentality and behavioural change among the residence in order to keep safe of their vehicles”.

Also presented at the event were YDH Tuan ACP Nik Ezanee bin Mohd Faisal, OCPD IPD Petaling Jaya, YBhg Dato’ Ooi Win Juat, Advisory of PUSPAKOM and Head of Marketing cum Director of VTREC, YBrs Encik Mohd Yazid bin Sharif, Chairman of Saujana Apartment Residency, YBrs Encik Rozainie bin Harun, Chairman of Suria Apartment Residency, representatives from PDRM JPJKK IPK Selangor, representatives from PDRM JPJKK Bukit Aman, representatives from PDRM OCS Sri Damansara, representatives from MK Land, Chairman and AJK of Joint Management Committee (JMC) & Joint Management Body (JMB) of various residences of Damansara Damai, representatives from Platun RELA Damansara Damai and fellow residences.

The community engagement also offered free Voluntary Vehicle Inspection which helped to check vehicle performance and safety measurement.  PUSPAKOM’s Mobile Inspection unit was parked to offer the distinguish service in front of Saujana Damansara Damai Apartment.  During the event, the residence took the opportunity to ask various questions in respect to vehicle theft for panels’ direct answers.  A focus group discussion and presentations were also took place to address various issues on vehicle theft and prevention measures.  The interaction programme was set in more dynamic setting with quizzes and prizes were up for grabs throughout the programme.
