MELAKA,<\/strong> 18 Oktober 2023: The Vehicle Theft Reduction Council of Malaysia (VTREC) holds a strategic \u201cKempen Kesedaran Kecurian Kenderaan & Students Engagement\u201d that causes road traffic accidents due to vehicles stolen parts as well as consequences of fake spare parts with the co-operation of Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM) and Kor Sukarelawan Polis Siswa Siswi (Kor SUKSIS UTeM).\u00a0 The event has taken place at Dewan Fakulti Pembuatan, UTeM, Ayer Keroh, Melaka.<\/p>\n

The engagement event aimed at rising awareness of crime of vehicle theft, transfer of knowledge and the prevention of vehicles from being stolen including stolen of vehicle spare parts.\u00a0 More than 250 students from various Pasukan Pakaian Beruniform such as Kor Sukarelawan Siswa Siswi, Kor Siswa-Siswi Pertahanan Awam, and Pasukan Latihan Pegawai Simpanan of Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka participated in the event.<\/p>\n

It was a clear demonstration of VTREC\u2019s commitments to fostering knowledge sharing and best practice sharing with the students of higher learning institution in the persuit of reducing vehicle theft among varsity communities in collaboration with UTeM Students Affairs Department (HEPA) and Jabatan Pencegahan Jenayah dan Keselamatan Komuniti, Polis Diraja Malaysia (JPJKK) Negeri Melaka led by YDH ACP Foo Chek Seng , Ketua Jabatan Pencegahan dan Keselamatan Komuniti Negeri Melaka, Pasukan Badan Beruniform UTeM especially Kor SUKSIS UTeM led by Puan ASP Juliya Yusof which assisted by Saudara Muhammad Aidil Fadzly Saidina Omar, Presiden Sukarelawan Polis Siswa Siswi (SUKSIS) and Saudari Nur Hafizah Alwi, Urusetia Sukarelawan Polis Siswa Siswi (SUKSIS).<\/p>\n

According to YBhg Professor Madya Datuk Dr. Sabri Mohamad Sharif, Timbalan Naib Canselor Hal Ehwal Pelajar & Alumni, it is important to foster a positive collaboration with stakeholders including VTREC with its vehicle theft reduction objective to expose students to real world experience.\u00a0 The information, knowledge, best sharing practice and preventive measures will be useful for the students to protect their vehicles against theft.<\/p>\n

He highlighted, \u201cstudents are remaindered to always lock up before leaving the car, especially for students who have motorcycles or cars at the university\u201d.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Puan Mas Tina Abdul Hamid, Co-ordinator of VTREC, said establishing engagement with the students and co-operation with UTeM and SUKSIS is one of the Council\u2019s initiatives in executing the knowledge sharing and best practice sharing in combating vehicle theft among the students in particular.<\/p>\n

Also presented at the event were Encik Mohd Hafidz Ketua Pembantu Tadbir Hal Ehwal Pelajar & Alumni, participated in the awareness campaign Vehicle Theft and Student Engagement UTeM \u2013 SUKSIS \u2013 VTREC. YDH Tuan ACP Foo Chek Seng Ketua Jabatan Pencegahan Jenayah Keselamatan Komuniti, YDH Tuan Supt Sidambaram A\/L Arunasalam, Timbalan Jabatan Pencegahan Jenayah Keselamatan Komuniti, Pegawai Penyeleras Kor SUKSIS UTeM, Ajutan Kor SUKSIS, and Jurulatih Kor Sukarelawan Polis Siswa Siswi (SUKSIS) UTeM. Attending the \u201cStudent Engagement and Awareness Campaign Vehicle Theft\u201d is everyone from Kor SUKSIS, Sukarelawan Pasukan Latihan Pegawai Simpanan (PALAPES), and Kor Siswa Siswi Pertahanan Awam Universiti (SISPA).<\/p>\n

Various presentations and best practice sharing took place today by Puan Marlyana Mansur, Executive Officer of VTREC on statistics of vehicle theft crime and prevention measures, YBrs Tuan Mohamad Nor Hishammudin Mohamad Zin, Ketua Bahagian Keselamatan Jalan Raya Negeri Melaka (JPJ), talk on risks and consequences using stolen spare parts and fake spare parts and YDH Puan DSP Norazlinda Nordin, PegawaI Turus Kepolisian Komuniti IPK Negeri Melaka.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

A panel of experts on the subjects of vehicle theft and traffic accident is also gathered by the events, including representatives from Polis Diraja Malaysia and Jabatan Pengangkutan Jalan Malaysia. The panellists presented information, ideas, techniques, facts, statistics, and solutions to avoid becoming a victim of vehicle theft.<\/p>\n

First Speaker: Puan Marlyana Mansur delivered her presentation on vehicle theft cases due to cause of road traffic accident.<\/p>\n

She points out that the number of vehicle thefts in 2022 compared to 2021 decreased for cars by 0.49% and for commercial vehicles by 10.78%.\u00a0 However, the number of motorbike thefts increased by 1.18%. Apart from that, the Toyota Hilux, with 204 units, is the most stolen car, followed by Proton Wira (113 units), Perodua Myvi (101 units), and Proton Iswara (101 units) in the top 5.\u00a0 Following study, VTREC discovered that vehicle theft of Toyota Hilux vehicles in Sarawak had grown by 800%.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

In her conclusion, Puan Marlyana Mansur says that syndicates would sell stolen cars as stolen components. A traffic accident involving a cut-and-joint, failed brakes, or a gearbox failure might be caused by a stolen car.\u00a0 In addition, because a cut and join can cause a horrendous mishap that is exceedingly dangerous and perhaps fatal.\u00a0 In addition, family members who have lost someone in vehicle accident are likewise impacted\u00a0\u00a0 This has an impact on the mortality and injuries of family members of those involved in auto accidents as well.\u00a0 Her advise also including avoiding buying a stolen vehicle or phoney component because they are both unlawful and poorly guarded.\u00a0 At the conclusion, she addressed the guests about the dangers of auto theft caused by illicit spare parts, advising them not to trade or purchase such items. She also suggested that drivers change their driving habits and take better care of their cars in order to protect their own and their families’ lives.<\/p>\n

Second Speaker: YDH Puan DSP Norazlinda Nordin, Polis Diraja Malaysia, JPJKK Negeri Melaka, delivering her presentation on \u201cStatistik Kecurian Kenderaan Januari \u2013 September 2022 hingga Januari \u2013 September 2023, Kesalahan curi kenderaan mengikut undang-undang dan pencegahan jenayah kepada orang ramai.\u201d\u00a0 The figures presented by YDH Puan DSP Norazlinda involving vehicle theft were classified by vehicle type and year.\u00a0 The table shows the number of vehicle thefts in \u2018Kontinjen Melaka\u2019. The number of statistics for Vehicle Theft in Melaka has increased by 9.88% for motorcycles and by 90.91% for cars. \u00a0The table depicts a study of the incidence of disappearances and thefts of heavy machinery and motorcycles in location such as houses, supermarkets, car parks, roadside and others.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Additionally, YDH Puan DSP Norazlinda discussed crime prevention advice, such as locking your car when you leave it and installing a high-quality security alarm; avoiding parking next to larger cars so that they are out of sight; always parking in a visible spot and locking it at night in a well-lit area; making sure your car keys are not duplicated when sending it for maintenance; and avoiding parking next to large cars so that they are hidden from view.<\/p>\n

Third Speaker: YBrs Tuan Mohamad Nor Hishamuddin, Ketua Bahagian Keselamatan Jalan Raya JPJ Negeri Melaka focused on road safety issues and risks of traffic accidents. He stated that the concerns of road traffic accidents include financial loss, loss of family members, trauma, medical expense burden, and loss to the country.\u00a0 In his presentation, he also mentioned that individuals must take care of themselves by understanding Malaysians\u2019 persepectives on road safety concerns and the accountability of all parties.\u00a0 He also stated that the number of fatalities by state until June 2023 is 3,237 and the overall number of deaths from 2010 to June 2023 is 85,794. \u00a0The districts with the highest number of deaths caused by road traffic accidents in 2023 are Kuala Muda (87), Ipoh (79) and Batu Pahat (67).\u00a0 He further stated that 67% of the deaths were caused by a traffic collision involving a group of motorbike pillion riders.\u00a0 Factors that contribute to road accidents include human irreseponsibility and infastructure. Riders and pillion must provide documentation such as always carrying a driver\u2019s licence or the My Jabatan Pengangkutan Jalan system, ensuring that your motor vehicle licence is valid and active, and storing documents in a safe and easily accessible location.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

YBrs. Tuan Mohamad Nor Hishamuddin also discussed the need to prepare safety gear for riders and passengers, including helmets that can prevent head injuries, jackets that can shield the body from heat and falls, flavoured clothing that can lower the chance of death in the event of an accident, gloves that improve grip and shield the hands from injury, and equipment made of materials resistant to abrasion.\u00a0 Additionally, he highlighted the need for regular and sporadic inspection and maintenance of your motorcycle’s parts to guarantee their usability for safer riding. \u00a0For example, make sure the brake pad is thick enough and not worn out, maintain your tyres by checking their tread depth for maximum traction, and make sure the headlights, brake lights and signal lights are all functioning properly. In conclusion, he also said to always follow the official speed limit and to plan your journey in advance, taking into consideration traffic, road conditions, and any risks.<\/p>\n
