Port Klang,<\/strong> 15 November 2022: The Vehicle Theft Reduction Council of Malaysia (VTREC) with the co-operation of Westports Holdings visited scanners sites at Port Klang, today.\u00a0\u00a0 Vehicle theft syndicates involve in illegal trading of stolen Malaysian-registered vehicles were not just using land borders but ports to transit the stolen vehicles.\u00a0 The vehicle theft syndicates in Malaysia are no longer limited to exporting stolen vehicles to closest bordering country such as Thailand but are believed were also smuggled to other regional countries like Myanmar, Laos and Cambodia, according to a The Star report.<\/p>\n

According to Bukit Aman former CID Director, CP Dato\u2019 Sri Wan Ahmad Najmuddin Mohd since 2015 until 2018 the Royal Thai Police (RTP) had recovered more than 100 stolen Malaysian vehicles in the kingdom and handed them over to their Malaysian counterparts.\u00a0 Police forces from both countries would step up their co-operation to bust vehicle theft syndicates that operating in both countries.<\/p>\n

There were cars and lorries either whole unit or being stripped as illegal spare parts will be packed into containers then transported via sea through ports.\u00a0 The stolen vehicles then smuggled into other regional countries or other part of the world. Through investigation by enforcement agencies indicated that the syndicate had falsely declared the contents of the containers to avoid detection and to divert attention from holding anything else, however, were stolen vehicles or illegal spare parts.<\/p>\n

Jabatan Kastam Diraja Malaysia (JKDM) has step up their security measures by installing modern rapid scanners at Export Container Gate among others to foil illegal goods from being smuggled including vehicle theft which operated by organised crimes to smuggle stolen vehicle for international market.\u00a0 The scanner installation initiatives were strongly supported by the Westports Holdings.<\/p>\n

VTREC Management entourage to Westports was led by the VTREC Co-ordinator, Puan Mas Tina Abdul Hamid, also presented were Encik Muhammad Alif Mohd Adnan, Puan Nur Alwanie Iberahim and Puan Izyan Nadiah Mat Din.\u00a0 Puan Mas Tina and her team were taken through the sites by Encik Muhamad Azizul Zahidin, (Government Relations Manager, Westports Sdn Bhd, Port Klang) and Puan Afiqah Hazi (Government Relations Executive, Westports Sdn Bhd, Port Klang) escorted by Polis Bantuan officers to key areas at the port including vessel wharfs, containers platforms and scanner machines sites while monitoring the load carried containers by passing trucks and hauliers.<\/p>\n

Puan Mas Tina appreciates the efforts and co-operation taken by Westports Holdings in tackling vehicle theft smuggling activities fuelled by Jabatan Kastam Diraja Malaysia\u2019s commitment by the installation, commissioner and Customs Control Room (CCR) monitoring of the rapid scanners at the Export and Import Container Gate over passing hauliers through the scanners.\u00a0 Puan Mas Tina thanked Encik Muhamad Azizul for Westports Holdings\u2019s hospitality and info sharing throughout the visit with hope for more scanner machines to be installed to cater the busy traffic at the Export Container Gate.<\/p>\n
